Thread Starter | Construction (update pics) I am almost finished building a new desk. I was going to buy one of these but Home Depot is a little cheaper. So far I got about $100.00 in it. That was mainly for a $50.00 sheet of oak and 4" casters. I worked on it Saturday and Sunday and all I have left is to sand and polyurethane the top. I used the design from the desk above. I'll post pictures when I'm done. ![]() |

Thread Starter | It took me a while to get to this point. But here we go. I'm trying to decide whether or not to put a 4 rack space/speaker stand on either side. What do you think? I still need to finish the top. And of course load all my gear back up. It's certainly is red isn't it? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Excellent. How much did you spend in all? If you put the word "raxxess" on it, you could sell it for $1,000 ![]() I assume you bought the rack rails and mounted them in homeade boxes?

| Great job and very nice looking desk. I'm a big fan of DIY and built most of my studio furniture, too. Saves alot of money and nobody else has the same stuff. thumbsup |

Thread Starter | Thanks for the kind words guys. The desk is actually made from my old rack (that I made as well). You can see the black equipment rack in the pics on my website. I cut it in 2 and then cut them down to 12 rack spaces and tied them together and cut the top. I work in data/telecom for my real job and I have access to all the rack rails one could need. I took a 7 foot Chatsworth data rack with the "U" shaped rails, and ripped them down the middle with a jig saw. That gave me 28 feet total rack rail. And there's plenty more where that came from. I know what you mean about leaving the speaker on stands. That is what I would like to do. But I really need the rack space that it would give me to put them on the desk (see the link in my 1st post). Right now I'm out of space. Unless I loose some gear. That's not going to happen, this is gearslutz right. ![]() Next comes the poly |

the casters were another $52.00. I haven't gotten the poly yet but I think it's only about $10 or $12 for a half gallon. The cabinets themselves I had prior to this project. The rails I got for free. The paint was free, Well actually my wife bought it a while back and never used it and then changed her mind and didn't want it. But it came from the reject bin at Home Depot for $5.00. I think that's all. For a grand total of less $120.00 I got a desk that would have cost $1500.00 from Omnirax or somewhere else. Oh yeah lets not forget the hours and splinters and sanding that went into it. I guess that's why people buy from manufacturers. That sander has killed my ears. After sanding the crap out of that top I could of swore I kept hearing my cell phone ringing. My ears need a rest. ![]() | |

| Dude, you're so excellent for ordering the blank panels for your API. I've been trying to do that for over a year. I think it'll be full before I need them. |

Nah! Neat wiring is for wimps!!! Seriously, it is pretty important to keep the audio cables away from the power cables. Great job man! I built my own desk and racks too, so I can appreciate how much stinking work it really is. Congratulations!
