My New Studio or What I did on my summer vacation...

I spent the last 4 months building out a new mixing and live room in NYC. The rooms were designed by Rod Gervais and he did a great job. I built it out with the help of Rod's book a few friends and one super carpenter.

I am thrilled with how it came out. It looks and sounds like a dream come true. The room is set up for 5.1 and Stereo mixing and recording. I never want to leave...

We set up the rooms to link via Skype, so I don't have a window between them. I've done a few sessions with the Skype link and it feels just like a window.

The live room sounds great, quiet and a bit lively... but not too lively. It's really spot on. We had a 7 piece band in the live room a few weeks ago and outside the door all you could hear was the gentlest hint of the drums. And inside the room everyone could hear everything.

The Fabric in the live room is not wavy as it looks in these pics. I'm going to have to take some more to figure out why it looks that way.

Wow, a wonderful looking space! Great job on carrying out the construction so well - looks great (helps to have a wonderful designer like Rod as well). The live room looks like so much fun to jam in!

I don't see any speakers? Are they behind the fabric?

Super fantastic! Great job, great vibe!

Also curious about the speakers, and what is futuristic space echo looking thing on top of the rack?

Yes the speakers are all hidden behind the (acoustically transparent) fabric. The panels come off if I want to replace or repair them.

That is the Kemper Profiling Amplifier. It's an amazing guitar amp-thing that can really clone the sound of any amp, anywhere, and at any level. And the clones are not snapshots, you can make adjustments to the patches like changing the gain of a patch or changing cabs.

It's really cool...
