Need advice on how to set up my homestudio

Hi there,

I have a bedroom that I use as a homestudio. Current accoustic treatment is almost null today so sound is pretty poor.

I thinking about the best way to organize my gear considering that:
- I have a self made guitar rack with 5/6 guitars
- A desk that I will do myself for laptop, sound card, racks, monitors (Mackie MR5 mk2), etc...
- Mike stands

I will also build accoustic panel/reflector depending on advices I'll get.

See a 3D pic of this room.
My first point is probably what is the best place for desk and monitor until I cannot put monitors really far from wall (this is a little room).

Thanks for your help guys.

What are the dimensions of the room?

Kind of tricky to set up if you want to take advantage of the natural light. My first instinct would be to place the desk right in front of the window, with you facing the window (you'd need blinds for it), and then cover that whole front wall (including the angled part) with broadband absorption.

You'd also want to do a lot of bass trapping in such a small room.

Or you could reverse the setup, with the desk on the wall opposite the window (but you'd potentially get glare on your display).

For lighting, it would be best to have the the angled wall to your right hand side... but in terms of acoustics, such a setup is prone to imaging problems when listening through speakers. Best to have left-right symmetry in your listening room.

Totally agree with this post. I would suggest facing the window, centered on the wall. Seems to be the only place in the room that will give you close to even L&R response. Obviously opposite that would as well, but then you have all reflections aiming straight back towards mixing position and would give you less space for your gear you currently have.
