Is bass trap mounting a must?

First i am really not sure if i need corner traps, front wall traps, back corner traps, etc. just yet. But i am renting a house and was wondering if there was a way around mounting them. Is there another type of absorption i should look into?

just nail three planks of wood together and that as a stand!

it depends on how much foot traffic is passing by the stands as to how stable it all needs to be. luckily, i managed a simple solution

I've never rented a place that was acoustically pure, but maybe you got lucky? Set up and get to know the room(s) by ear and go from there. Or measure the rooms, do math on the modes, etc. But I'm guessing you'll need some treatment.

Beatsmith is right about stands. I've built many portable devices - just adding short sections of 2x4" feet that pivot flat with the panel when you want them out of the way.

Hey Rukk!

Not too sure which video you are referring to. We do not have any "cusion" like bass traps. However, our soffit traps are free standing and can be stacked without mounting to the wall. They are also our most effective broadband trap at low frequencies, and come in a variety of colors to match the room. Our Tri-Traps are also stackable. Both of these are great options if you can not mount anything to the wall. Also, our wall traps can be mounted on a boom stand via brackets that we sell.

You can contact us anytime if you have any questions, we're more than happy to help decide what is best for your room. http://www.gikacoustics.com/contact_us.html
