Tri corner BassTrap with Membrane

Hi there... This is my first post after 5years visiting almost on a daily basis and 2 years being registered (Which I did only to be sure no one takes the nickname), I never had the need to ask for anything, just by reading and researching I have got all I needed, at least until now. BTW... Guys, you are a amazing.

(I'm sorry about my grammar, English it is not my first language)

I got left 4x50mm isolation and I need to fill a gap of 1.8m on the front corner so, I was playing around with sketchup to see how to. I could build 2 standard traps 1200x600x100mm which will left a gap of 600mm uncover or build something like this to be able to cover the whole 1.8m gap.

The first pic is with the membrane behind the isolation and the second one in front.

Now the question... Is it worthy to try out one of these setups? if that is the case, which one would do the most bass trapping front or behind membrane? or is it simply the best to go for the standard and build 2x100mm thick bass traps?

SketchUp file

Thanks a lot.

There is no evidence to show benefit from a membrane in front of a Corner Absorber. It may be that placing a membrane there merely reflects back HF, which may be what you want, but I have seen no tests showing enhanced absorption. If you get some damped resonance, a critical balance, you should get a LF boost. Some manfacturers are showing this, e.g. RPG Modex and Primacoustic MaxTrap.
I have had great success with the larger 85cm wide SuperChunks. They are big but can be done cheaply using light attic insulation.
Do remember that location and surface area are crucial. e.g. 4 Vertical Corners, floor to ceiling.

I can't say your design will or will not work but I have been working on a trap design similar that use a membrane to the front and it seems to be testing quite well. The only way you are going to know if yours works is to test it.

Edit... I am assuming you have some absorption like fiberglass in your design.

Hey DD thanks for tip in... Lets see, that is exactly why I was considering to do this build, I was trying to fill the gap but, with limited material, I guess that you want me perhaps to w8 to get more material and go for super chunk instead of being experimenting. Got your point. (Btw, my neighbor love to read you)

Hey Glenn, thanks a lot to you too for tip in... Yes ofc, I'm currently living in Norway, I'm using the OC or Rockwool equivalent, here the brand is called Glava and the one I'm using is 45kg/m3, the specific one is Lydplate (Sound plates or planks would be the translation) meant for sound isolation.

Damn, if it wasn't so expensive to import your product from UK I wouldn't be here twisting my mind about how to get the most out of the little I have.

But hey I don't bother you anymore, thanks lot both of ya!

One more thing, DD when you say "light attic insulation" can you point me to a specific one? The thing is, they are cheap but, also too light and soft so, I wonder about the efficiency.

Attic

buzzy, attic insulation varies but they don't really specify it because it expands, or gets compressed. Also it's a big world, different continents have different products, or the same products under different names.
I would go for one of the modern Ecose type products. No smell and much less itchy and scratchy. Loft Insulation Rolls | Thermal Insulation | Attic Insulation | Loft Roll 44

I would go for one of the modern Ecose type products. No smell and much less itchy and scratchy. Although they are light density, such products perform better when they are deep. NASA found 16KG Fibreglass performed better than OC703 (48KG) when 7 inches deep. (From memory)
These light fibre rolls are great for big traps, but for smaller ones, the half rigid medium density boards can be easier to work with.
