Building a recording studio...need drums

Hey I'm looking for a good drumset for rockband trying to go to next level. Ive built a small but great sounding recording studio with booth, and wanted to try and start recording and mastering rock music, what is a great drumset for a drummer to use? Whats the big difference between a 5pc and 6pc drumset. I'm trying to spend between $100-$450. Thanks also how do most studio go about recording drums?

You're probably looking used then. A used set of decent shells can occasionally be had for $400.

With mics, preamps, etc? Maybe rethink what it is you are asking there.

lol chill on the sarcasm, was asking does the 6th piece do something the 5pc couldn't do, and would mic or pre-amp be the best way to go?

OK - as to the "how to record" question - you have to use mics - and you have to use pre-amps......

You can't use just one or the other.......... I am totally confused about that part of the question........

As far as the drums go - check out e-bay..........

But I would caution you - based on your post - it doesn't sound like you know a whole lot about drums........ the odds of you picking up a S100 kit and finding anything other then some decent shells is pretty slim........ in order to get any (even half way decent) drummer to want to play your drums - in your space - recording the band they play with - the drums are going to have to both sound and "feel" right to them.....

Which means you will need to learn how to tune them properly - and the hardware is going to have to be good.

One other note - you probably can get by without drums - drummers will usually bring their own......

And (as an aside) this really is the wrong forum to be asking these questions......

You know, all kidding aside...

You really should post your drum questions on a drum forum. If you have questions on drum recording methods, there are plenty of threads of this topic. Just use the search function.

I'm not one to judge, only saying that people here are going to be reluctant to waste their time reinventing the wheel.

WLR,

I do a little bit of business in New Haven on occasion - I'll have to swing by and check out your studio on one of those trips....... nice looking gear you have there.
