Newbie...

Hey everyone I am a newbie to this site and recording and am looking for a little info on how to record an electric guitar. I've tried the 2 mic system for my half stack plugged straight in to my Tascam DP-02 Mixer, I've also tried the direct out from the amp straight in to the same mixer. Nothing seems to work to get the quality of sound I here on many demos on this site even. Here's the gear I have for recording...

Tascam DP-02 Mixer
2 MXL 990 Condensor Mics
Garageband software

Will this setup do for recording good sounding guitars? I have attached a sample of what I got going right now to be ripped apart and heavily criticized.

You can record your guitar by so many different ways.

One thing you should note is that, an electric guitar has a high impedence output, that means you need to plug your guitar into a high impedence input like that of a guitar amp.

One way is to record the sound from your speaker cabinet with a microphone.
i.e ElecGuitar to Guitar amp to Cabinet to MIc to Preamp to Recorder/MIxer or to PC via USB interface.

Or, you can record dry by pluging into a high impedence input directed to a recording chain(no preamp).
i.e. Elec Guitar to DI BOX to MIxer to Recorder
or Elec Guitar to USB Interface with HI Impedence input(Guitar IN).

You can add further processing to the dry signal.

Cheers

Hey thanks for the reply godly I think I may have not been clear on what exactly I'm doing... I have been using mics to mic my cabinet of my amp (i always plug my guitar in to my amp) and the direct out that I sometimes use is the direct out on the amp that gets plugged directly to the Tascam mixer then to my software.
