Do people soffit mount with non angled walls?

With 10.6 ft width I don't have room to build angled walls. As it is I have a rectangular box nearing completion.

Measures 19ft x 10.6 ft x 7.8 ft

I have been torn since I started this project 9 months ago on if I will flush mount my monitors or not. I'm at the point where I really have to make a decision. The speakers are quested H108's that are front ported and are passive so I have no real issues on that front.

I'm thinking I simply build the soffit structures straight across the room corners as they are, and leave the walls either side as they are, non angled. Is this ok? Of all the pictured I have seen of people flush mounting I can't remember seeing anyone using non angled walls.

Lastly, does the top part of the soffit structure need to be sealed? Normally it would be by default for most people as you have a hard ceiling the framing runs up to. In my case however, I have joists of 6 inch depth I'm leaving open to fill and cover for bass trapping / reflection control. Will I have to make a lid to go under the joists to seal the structure? Thanks very much , all feedback greatly appreciated.

Lightbulb

Speakers built into a large wall will benefit from the lack of boundary reflections and edge diffraction. But a small soffit that isn't very wide or high won't give much benefit. It's not clear what you have in mind or how large.

Ethan gave as a great as possible advice with the information you gave. Make a drawing and post it. There is a reason drawings are the language of architecture. Sketchup is free and easy to learn.

Drawn out,
Andre

Not very common and probably not very correct since the direction of the speakers are not aligned with the sweet spot.

If you can't do it right just don't do it !

Soffit mount is not mandatory. Lots of great rooms have been built without soffit mount. Sterling Sound for instance, one of the best mastering studios in the world, no sofftit mount. I could go on and on naming studios...

This forum is full of dogmas from people who have never designed a pro studio. I could only name a few people here who I really respect. Their work speaks for itself so to say.
