New studio opening in DFW...

I am trying to get the word out about a new studio that is opening in Dallas in the next year. We have a very different business model from other studios in the area so bear with us.

The studio is primarily designed for mixing, and has no tracking capability. This means no preamps and no multiple I/O.

We will be offering Reaper, Pro Tools, and Logic, and Cubase. We will also have a nice selection of plugins from WAVES and Softube and others.

Our monitoring system is what we believe people will actually come in and pay for. We have purchased as pair of QUESTED VH3208 monitors. In addition we are including dual 18" JBL subs on each side.We want powerful monitoring.

We have considered an APOGEE ROSETTA 200 for AD/DA but we are on the fence on that.

The ultimate goal is to offer mixing at a rate of $50 for a 4 hour block. Yes you read that right. We want people to bring tracks they recorded at home and mix them with us.

No surround sound will be offered because we are not looking for film work.

We are not looking for criticism for our business plan, but then again this is GEARSLUTZ, so I have no doubt there is plenty.

We are still in the building phase so no links or contact info is available at this time. Please let us know what you guys think so far.

I don't understand how you can
Make a profit at 50 for 4 hours. That's 4 dollars an hour over minimum wage, isn't it?

Why powerful monitoring ? It only leads to possible damage of the ear and ear fatigue...

Thanks for the interest.

It seems that many of you don't like to mix LOUD. Can I ask why this seems like a bad setup?

nothing necessarily wrong with the selection of speakers and amplification. i'm working on a project where the mains will likely use 6KW of power but the goal is still 85db with the occasional short duration bump up to 110db to hype clients. most times mixing loud as previously mentioned results in fatigue and ultimately more issues with translation.

I get the idea, a mix room, but are you just renting it out or is the $50 four hour block to include someone to mix the projects?

You may want to keep in mind that gear(your monitors in this case since it sounds like that will be your only gear)will not bring business. The people doing the mixes will if they do them much better than your potential clients can on their own reaper, logic, cubase, pro tools systems.

Good luck and I hope it goes well.
