Need Help with The F Sounds all help would be appreciated!!!

I am struggling with getting the f sounds out of my vocals when recording. If I get to close there is an apparent f sound, somewhat hollow sounding and when I move back im getting to much of the room. I am not recording in a professionally treated environment however the sound seems to be coming more from the mic than from the room. Can anything be done about this while recording? I am recording with a pop filter. The f sounds are more apparent when closer to the mic. Where I would like to record is about 3 inches away capturing more of the vocal and eliminating the room sound. Any tips, suggestions would be appreciated.

What mic are you using?
How big is the room?
How is it treated/ or not?

My first suggestion would be to sing/talk under the diaphragm of the microphone. ie; the mic is placed with the diaphragm pointing at the nose. You can get very close this way without any breath effects. But we really need a little more information.. can you post a photo?
Cheers,
John

I am using the Re 320 dynamic cardioid micriphone. I am recording in a closet about 10 feet high 6 feet wide 5 feet length . However I hear the f sounds in and out of the closet when close miking with a pop filter. The pop filter is right up on the mic and i am about an inch away from the pop filter. The sound is not completely terrible just noticeable enough to bother me in my recording process. The closet is not acoustically treated however I am using a prime acoustics reflection filter.

Hmmm, I'm guessing now.. but it may very well be the pop filter itself.

Some screens make an audible noise when air passes through them. Are you sure that you have it turned the right way around? Check it with and w/o the pop filter.

I usually don't use anything, unless possibly a new set of stockings over a coat hanger.. you just about can't beat that... no noise AND no breath on the capsule.

I'm familiar with the RE-20 the old stand-by radio dynamic mic.. also VEry good for kick drum, but the 320 must be a new thing?? Dynamics are dynamics and often have a 'good enough' pop filter built into the mic capsule screen. Try it and see what works the best.

Cheers,
John
