Diffuers Used as Bass Traps? Skyline

Can you use skyline diffusers as bass traps? Or build them in a way so that the back of it is flush with the wall but the front is a 1/4 of a circle. Imagine a 1/4 of a gobo running alongside the corner of a wall. Would this be helpful or hurtful?

Assuming the diffuser is not too heavy, you can use it (or anything actually) as the lid (or part of the lid) of a membrane absorber.

Diffuser and Bass trap at the same time need orientation! ;) surely newbie question

Just a quick follow up question: would I be able to mount skyline diffusors on the front of, say GIK monster bass traps on the back wall? Would that have any benefit, or should I really be choosing between absorption and diffusion?

It depends what the diffusor is make out of. If EPS then yes. Another way around it is to put slats in front of them. We are actually selling a scatter plate that is built into the bass traps. It is not on the website as of yet but you can see it on our facebook.

Great news! I just bought some more monster traps for this purpose... (going behind some EPS Skyline diffusers on the back wall)

would you suggest keeping the panel/diffusers an inch from the wall? or right up on it?

Our products are built with an air gap so you can mount it flush to the wall. You can though put more air gap which does help.

if you're thinking of utilizing a large, sufficiently thick velocity-based porous LF absorber on the [rear wall; rear 2d/3d corners], you could essentially build this as a false-wall and place the diffusers on the outer face to handle the specular returns. the larger LF wavelengths will diffract around the diffuser.

the diffusers/skylines could also be built as gobos (w/ caster wheels) to easily move and place where needed (in front of the large, LF rear wall porous absorber).
