Minimum Dimensions For Decent Mixing Room

So I'm looking for a place in New York City, which I'm sure everyone knows can be ridiculously expensive. What I need to know, is what would be the smallest room I could use for mixing effectively? I just moved out of a space in Philly that was 10'W x 12'L long x 8' H that suited me fine. Can I get any smaller than that? I lot of rooms I'm seeing are 7'W x 10'L or 12'L--could this work with treatment?

I should also add that I have eleven 2'x4'x4" acoustic panels, but I will get more if it would make a small room feasible.

Thanks in advance for your input!

That is getting pretty small so if you do go that way plan on a TON of trapping. Pretty much every wall to wall and ceiling to wall corner with thick absorption on the back wall with covering the early reflection points.

Thanks for the reply Glenn, it's reassuring to know I can make a smaller space work if I trap the hell out of it.

Hi, I'm new to the forum... I apologize for hijacking.

What about a 10' x 10' room with a 30" deep entry way? The ceiling is 8'. It is my only option, and I am on a tight budget. Traps traps traps i know that much. Can't have enough of them.

The entry way flutters like crazy. Would hanging a moving blanket from the ceiling(removable walking in and out) across the whole entryway combined with foam for the HF reflection points work well (alongside the traps of course)? should I foam the door or leave it open?

are there added room mode calculations I should do regarding the entry way?

and the best for last, how should I orient my listening position? The entryway is in the corner of the room. Should I be doing my best to sit facing away from it?

In a room that size and shape the major problem is going to be low end which moving blankets or thin foam on the walls will not work. What you need is proper bass trapping in as many corners and possible with panels for the early reflection points. More here.

Yeah a 10x10x8 room is nearly a cube so it will be tough. Follow Glenn's advice with the bass trapping, see here for details:

Though to answer your questions yes it is likely the moving blankets will kill flutter echo, that's easy enough to solve, it's caused by 2 parallel, reflective surfaces. Figure out which 2 surfaces are causing the problem and put absorption or diffusion on one of them (or both using staggered panels).

As I said, I know that I can't have too many traps in a room like this.

Basically one of the walls is 12.5' long and the rest are 10'. The wall that has the door in it is adjacent to the 12.5' wall, and the closet makes up for that extra 2.5 feet.
It is like having a 2.5' hall at the entrance of the room so loads of flutter come out of that "corner".

The real issue is getting bass trapping in all the corners with such limited space. I have a bed and a desk and a bookshelf also. I really don't have much access to the corners of the room. It sucks because the music I love to make is really bass heavy.
