Vocal Booth Dilemma!

Basically I'm trying to figure out what the best Place to record in my room is.

Set up: The room is about 13x15. There are 2 closets. Closet 1 is built into one of the walls and is about 3.5 ft deep 3.5 ft wide. the other built out in a corner, protruding about 3 feet out of the wall. It's about 3.3 ft deep 6 feet wide. Both are about 8ft high

Option 1: Out in the open.
Cons: AC unit noise. Computer noise. Human Noise.

Option 2: Closet 2

Option 3: Closet 1

Highly doubtful it will be in the small closet.

I was thinking either getting 8-16 12" x 12" x 24" corner bass absorbers (NRC is greater than 1 at each freq) to outline the corners and ceilings of the closet (from ceiling to carpet, and around the whole rectangle of the ceiling.) and the rest 2inch Acoustic foam.

Or

Using a product very similar to 703 for the open recording.

Other factors:

Spending on the recording treatment is about 400$ for the booth.

300$ for the open room. ( I already have 6 of the panels, id problem get 14 more... cost for the 14 is less than 200)

I mostly plan on using the room for recording Vocals and maybe a little guitar... Only a little mixing and production will be done.

Any suggestions? Very open to ideas.

Use the open room.

Treat the open room.

Turn off the AC while recording (or isolate it, or use a gobo to attenuate it along with other room 703 panels)

I agree.
It's a task though. Do your research, and the result should be rewarding. Room dynamics seperate good from great.

I do laugh every time I see a rap video of some guy in his closet with every square inch covered in auralex wedgies. oh well. some people can make it work I guess.

Option 1 for sure. You can always turn off the AC while tracking.
