Mic placement and bass traps

Hi Guys,

I was thinking about hanging 2 4" thick bass trap panel in one corner of my 10' x 10' room, and sticking the microphone for vocal recording in front of that (bass traps are set in v-shape).

Would this be ok for recording clean vocals? My room is treated for first reflection points and 4" bass traps in 4 corners, but I cant seem to get a clean vocal recorded without getting the room ambience included in it. My chain in Blue Baby Bottle, into a Avalon 737sp, into Apogee Duet recording in PT9 HD.

Any advice would help,

Thanks,
AlPal

Yes that's a good start. Ideally you'd have more bass traps in the room corners, but if you have just 2 then start with them very close to the mic in a V shape as you describe.

You want as many panels straddling corners as possible and generally singing into a corners does not give the best sound. I would use the panels for a make shift booth but not in the corners. Maybe make stands for them?
