depth of full back wall trapping

I have a choice of either 6 inch or 9 inch deep full trapping of the back wall, which is a false wall spaced out from the actual room boundary. I will have slat traps in the corners, another story..anyway...

I was originally going to go with 9. But Im trying to understand how much a difference that would make over a 6 inch depth. Another 3 inches at the back of the room would be nice, but if a extra 3 inch depth would make a siginficant difference then i would go with 9. Thanks!

It is 19ft deep. otherwise 10.4 x 7.1. Its under construction so this decision has to be made pre testing due to other considerations. Thanks John...wouldnt immediate intuition say more is better?

I would just go with 9" and be done with it. In fact if you can go 12"..... I will say though that if that was my room and budget was not the major factor I would go with broad band in the corners only, with diffusion and something tuned on the back wall. Might be out of your scope though if you are DIYing it.

Here is a nice thread on the topic, off course every room is different, so results can vary.

40Hz, go to hell!
