Acoustic Treatment, how do i begin

Hello out there

So getting my room treated has always been on my wish list but never something i have gotten around to do, but now must finally be about the time to atleast start doing something. I think my room pretty much suffers from every bad acoustic element there exists. Everything sounds pretty dull, the sound doesn't properly leave the speakers. I have echos and so on.

Now i wish i would be able to just go out and make some bass traps myself, but the problem is i dont own any tools or have any place to begin such a project so my best start would by some foam from manufactures and hopefully at some point start building bass traps. Unfortunately things such as GIK acoustics and RealTraps is out of my price range, especially cause getting them shipped to Denmark is ridiciously expensive.

So right now theres a pretty good deal i could hit on 4 bass traps from Universal Acoustics These ones

Would that even make any noticeable difference, i know foam bass trappings aren't exactly the most effective but will it make a difference at any frequency range? Or would i be better off getting a pack of Auralex Wedges and treat early reflections and so on to start with?

What would be the best way to start this off? Where would i have most benefit of placing treatment and also would a carpet on a wooden floor do any good?

I have included a drawn picture of my room if its to any help

Lightbulb

If cost is your biggest obstacle, make your own traps from rigid fiberglass or rock wool etc. That will cost even less than good quality foam, and work even better.

Yea i'm well aware of that, however as mentioned i have no tools or place to begin such a project and at the moment time isn't something i have lots off either.

Another question that just boggled my mind. Does bass traps also effect mid and high frequencies? Currently the thing in my room that sounds the best is probrably the bass, so in that case would absorbers be the best thing to get first?

No i haven't but bass seem to translate fine over to other systems where mids and highs are much more hit and miss

Yes what we commonly call bass traps are actually broadband absorbers, so they will help you at a variety of frequencies, not just bass.

Adding broadband absorption to the room corners, and high frequency absorption at first reflection points will help a lot.

You can use the following program to test the room
GIK Acoustics. REW Room EQ Wizard Room Measurement Tutorial video.

BTW if on a REALLY low budget and do not have the tools then use the fluffy fiber glass you find at home improvement stores. You can just stack it in the corners. Going to look a bit ghetto but will work pretty darn well.

One of my concerns about that, is i always heard that rockwool and fiberglass can be unhealthy if not sealed properly. Since the first 2 traps would be placed just about my bed i haven't felt entirely safe doing so. I spend alot of time in my room, of course it could always be a myth that i haven't bothered checking out.

Anyway aesthetics also kind of count, my girlfriend is already jabbering about my computer, monitors, speakers and instrument so she probrably wouldnt be happy with 2 fiberglass plates standing in the bed Hopefully before long i will be getting a dedicated studio room, but untill then i must make due with what i can.

I looked at some stuff from EQ Acoustics which seem pretty decent at a affordable price, EQ Acoustics

So if these things were my ONLY option, hypothetically what would give me the best start?

2 of EQ Spectrum Tiles? or 4 pieces of Universal Audio Bass traps
