Fan Noise / Apogee Symphony I/O

Hi everyone,

I'm helping a client build his studio. He is very much one to complain about fan noise. He wants to go with a used legacy Apogee product rather than a new Symphony I/O because he is worried that it will produce too much noise in the rack in the main studio.

Does anyone have a good idea how much noise the Symphony I/O actually makes? Can we just put it in the closet where the computer is?

Noisy Fans

It is mind boggling that these Control Room products have noisy fans.
I silenced my Digi HD192 with a Silenx fan.
Noctua also make great quiet fans.

Since the airflow modification earlier in the year my symphony i o has been super quiet, and that's with two 8x analogue / aes cards in it. Now all I can hear in my room is the transformer in my power amp.

I really hope the Symphony chassis is quiet enough for home studio use.
I am considering the purchase but I don't have a control room so the Symphony would sit in my tracking environment.

thanks

Mine is dead quiet except for the initial fan burst on power-up. Can't even tell its right next to me in the rack and I've got a pretty quiet room. Wouldn't worry about it at all for tracking.

The airflow mod and latest software is a must. Also it needs to be in a rack. With 8x8 in a rack, the fan is fine.
