Should I make my DIY acoustic panels thicker?

I recently built 8 acoustic panels (2'x4') for my band's jam place using Roxul Sound'n Safe. The goal was to make our mix clearer so we can hear ourselves better.

As you might know, this material comes in 3" thick layers. I only used one layer per panel. The more I read stuff on this forum, the more I feel I would have benefited from using 2 layers (6" thick). By doing this, I would probably end up compressing the material a bit, making it thinner than 6", but denser.

1-Do you think it would help to add another layer of SNS?
2-How will compressing the material affect the performance of the panel?

Do

Do it, it will be better. An airgap behind the panel is very nearly as effective and much cheaper though?

Agreed. And to add you may want to straddle some of those panels in the corners to bass trap.

Thanks!

What about compressing the mineral wool? How will that affect the performances?

Thicker is usually better than denser. Keep them uncompressed if possible. If you REALLY need to save a couple inches though, compressed will still work.

Acoustic treatment works wonders. Fibre is very vague.
Simply put thicker, or more surface area is better.
Enjoy, DD

Low kg/m3 is worthless.

Fine

SNS seems to be an excellent performer. Thus Andre's frequent recommendations of it.

Figures for 3 inches. Density is 40Kg/m^3

125 Hz 250 Hz 500 Hz 1000 Hz 2000 Hz 4000 Hz
0.52 0.96 1.18 1.07 1.05 1.05

Two layers should be great. Even if compressed to 5 inches or whatever.
