how much air gap is needed for sound isolation?

(Hope I'm using the right term.) I'm getting ready to double drywall an existing room in an effort to add a live room to my set up. This room is adjacent to both my CR and main vocal room so I would like to decrease the bleed between the 3 as much as possible. I attached a .pdf that shows all 3 rooms. The current mic room is already double drywalled and has all odd angles (not accurately depicted in my mock-up).

If I'm paying for someone to come in and hang drywall I thought about seeing how hard it would be for them to add some air inbetween the 2 layers. Per the wife, I dont have the option to build a true room within a room, but would it be beneficial to have even a 1/4" or 1/2" gap between the original drywall and the new drywall. Is this enough space to be effective? If so, whats the best way to go about doing this? And, should I do the same thing in the proposed amp room closet? Thanks for any insight.

A gap as you described will make sound isolation worse.

ok....

so am I better off just drywalling right on top of he existing drywall to at least increase mass? Or are there any other options I should explore?

up

Would love any further advice as I am getting ready to start on this project within a week or 2 and need to order supplies. Is there any sort of rubber (or something similar) to place between the 2 sheets of drywall or did I just make that up? Thanks.
