Mini Split AC Reccomendation...

Hey Fellow Gearslutz,

Well, after getting multiple bids on a "legitimate" split HVAC system for my 2 room home studio (CR + 13'x9' Vocal Booth) that exceeded $14k, I started looking into the mini-split ductless type systems.

There seems to be a lot of people out there wondering what the heck to buy - and no real answers. The bottom line is, most wall mounted Mini-Split units are too noisy to run during most recording sessions and do not bring any fresh oxygen into the room (leading to grouchy producers and lazy artists).

After researching and researching, I believe I found an answer to the mini-split problem that I'd like to share.

This unit is a mini-split, but NOT truly ductless - which is great because you can connect a short run of oversized acoustic flexible ducting to cut down on wind noise. It also has a fresh air intake as well!

Anyways, let me know your thoughts. I'm probably going to go with one, and actually use it to cool two rooms (This particular model is a 2 ton unit.)

Lastly, if you don't have ceiling space to put a unit like this, you can consider a "ceiling cassette" type unit, which also has a fresh air intake (but no ducting)

Which part of "not noisy" did I miss?

When a manufacturer quotes "36 dB" for a wall-mounted unit, without saying how this was measured, then it means it will be over 40dBA in a "real" room.

Hey Sebg,

I'm more recommending these styles of split units and not necessarily these specific models. There are at least three other companies that make these units... I'm sure a more reputable brand such as Mitsubishi or LG would be quieter.

It just seemed to me that no one had ever brought these styles of units to the GS community.
