Absorber, diffusers, and bass traps.

I've done a lot of reading and I think these are the 3 main types of room treatment pieces? I currently have no treatment at all and I have a pair of KRK RP5s and my mixes suck ass when played on other systems. These monitors have very misleading bass and I know it's because they're cheap. But before I upgrade to better monitors or buy a sub I know I should treat my room a little first.

My music room is 8x9x10 feet (width, length, height). Floor is carpet. I have my glass desk where my Macbook sits, two shelves on both sides for my monitors to sit on (the monitors are a little higher than my ears when I'm sitting so they are on Auralex pads tilted downward). On my left, I have a little wooden table where my Axiom keyboard sits. There is nothing else in the room except a mic stand/microphone in the corner where I record. The walls are thin wood and sound very hollow when I knock on them so I think that causes a lot of reflection.

Treating a room is pretty costly so I plan on doing little at a time. My question is when do I go for first? Should I buy bass traps first or absorbers for my sidewalls to treat mid/high frequency reflections?

My goal is to have all 4 corners supplied with bass traps, the wall behind me AND my monitors to have diffusers (or absorbers should work too right?), and the side walls to have absorbers for reflections.

In such a small room, I think that would pretty much cover my room treatment needs.. correct? Question is.. which aspect to treat first?

1st Bass traps (corners) ( oh, & don't record in the corner)
2nd Side wall & ceiling absorption.
3rd record in the mix position.
