Acoustic foam / bed foam / home studio vocal booth

I'm curious to know if anyone has ever built a vocal booth in their own home. If they have does it cost about the same to use bed foam as to use acoustic foam? I saw some acoustic foam on a website for around 7 dollars for a 12"x12" piece of acoustic foam. It was 2 inches thick and I actually saw someone on YouTube that bought the same stuff and you could tell the difference. I also priced bed foam at several different stores and to buy king size foam it was about 35 dollars. I'm afraid of spending over $100 on bed foam to fill up my entire walk in closet. The reason I'm afraid is I'm worried I would find out later that I could of bought the acoustic foam and filled it for about the same price.

My main worries here are how much would it cost to fill a room with acoustic foam about a 8-10 long foot long room by 4-6 feet wide, about 8-9 feet height I have no real measurement yet as I still need to clean out my closet before I start this project.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm new to recording music and I want to take the next step in treating a room properly for vocals. I was recording my vocals in my bedroom with no treatment. Those days are over though. HAHA.

Sorry if this post contains something that has already been posted.

This topic has been covered a lot (maybe that's why no one has responded). You need broadband absorption. That foam will only help with high frequencies. Probably frequencies too high for you to notice. It will help with flutter though.Take a look at this link RealTraps - Vocal Booths then read the entire website. May take a couple of days but it'll be worth it.

Thank you for the help. I did a bit of research tonight, found some good deals on acoustic foam that was on sale. I will be purchasing a lot of it while it is on sale. I found out it probably won't be cheaper to go with bed foam. If I was to use bed foam and it was not dampened enough to my liking for the music I'm doing, I would have to go out and purchase packing blankets. There goes $180 down the drain when I can just buy this professional quality acoustic foam while it was on sale. Research is everyone's friend LOL. Thank you for the link any information I can get my hands on for a better understanding of things to get more educated is what I am looking for.

I'd hold off on the foam until I read that website. Honestly the moving blankets would probably do the same as the foam. I won't say its worthless but it doesn't do anything for the low mids (which is where a lot of my vocal character lies). I'd say save up & buy a room kit from GikAcoustics

Those products would indeed be $180 down the drain. Read and follow Ray Sr's helpful comments.
