Help with purpose built studio

can any 1 recomend a '1 stop shop' book for helping me with my new studio build pls?

i have a stable and would like to build a studio inside it but have very little knowlege on the subject. i need to know things like:
ideal shape and size, construction materials, sound proofing insulation ideas, wiring etc etc.

essentialy i want a room that sounds good inside and quiet outside.

theres alot of reads out there, iv heard that 'Home Recording Studio-Build it Like the Pros' is good, but dont want to spend loads of time and money on books that arent goin to cover the 'build from scratch for beginers scenario'

just wondering what you thought?

Thanks for your time!

If you are commited to just one book, Rod's (Home Recording Studio-Build it Like the Pros) is it. There is this sticky acoustics treatment reference guide look here. Section 8 details several texts and some free material. My recommendation at a minimum is: Rod's book, Everest, and Newell. If you build it wrong, it will be considerably more expensive than some books and your time.

At least study and master my signature line.

Thanks!

dont get me wrong, i hav all the time in the world for reading, but i need a 'start from the begining book' ie. stud work and plaster board, nails screws etc. i am trying to avoid (for now) the books written for people with existing rooms that need tuning.
i have no room at all yet so need something that starts with ' construct your 4x2 frame using this many cross members, this thickness plasterboard etc etc. (for example)

as you say if i build it wrong it could be worse than i currently have, so i need something that covers the very beginning of the build in some depth (although written for the lamen.

i did see the page recommended, just wanted some more opinions

Thanks

In which case I will also recommend Rod's book as it covers what you say you want to do: how to build a studio.

Plus I would recommend hitting all the "better" studio/acoustics forums; Recording.Org (Rod's the mod there), Studio Tips, & John L Sayers. Not that any of the others aren't any good... but between those I mentioned and GS, you'll find an entire career's worth of the best information for the layman/DIY'er.

XaMdaM is too modest. His build dairy is ONE OF THE MOST COMPPREHENSIVE ones I have read. The other one is Paul Woodlock's at Studiotips. If you want to see what XaMdaM's studio looks like, look at Rod's book.

Hmmm... I just walk in the other room...

Actually, I guess I should order a copy of the new edition... I really do wanna' see how the pix turned out.

But I will invite you to check out the studio build at RO or follow the link to the build blog in my sig... they're pretty much the same entries, with a few extra's on the blog. It was a labor of love... and insanity...
