Thread Starter | Need help with speaker placement in updated room
Hi all, I recently had to tear down my entire room so the landlord could re-roof the house. I have just finished putting it all back together and have changed things a bit regarding the monitors. I used to have the System800A's standing upright with the bass ports on the bottom and now I have them on their sides. When they were upright the drivers were pretty much unobstructed by the Focal's underneath. Now I am wondering if there are going to be too many early reflections with the setup now. Please have a look at the pictures and let me know what you think. As far as I can hear things are ok and my mixes sound the same but I am a bit sick at the moment and my ears seem a little blocked so it's hard to tell. I will do many more listening tests. I also have a pair of Dynaudio BM6A's that I need to compare to the Tannoys and they will be in the same place and the same orientation. Any thoughts? Thanks for your time. -A |

Thread Starter | Some graphs from FuzzMeasure
I have no idea how this all works but here are graphs from FuzzMeasure as recorded with a Neumann TLM-103.

It's hard to say from these pictures. Basically, the best thing to do is to listen to music that you know and see if it sounds right. Another thing to do is slowly work them into your work flow by mixing with them, and then taking them to another system you know sounds good and seeing if you like the result. Do this slowly until you build up a trust in that system.

From my experience, there aren't more than one best position for pair of loudspeakers in a small room. This means that you can get best possible response only with one pair of loudspeakers, not more. Two or three pairs of poorly sounding loudspeakers usualy can't be better than one pair of good sounding loudspeakers. Hope this helps. Cheers Boggy |

Thanks for the replies. I do understand that I will have to mix and then listen on other systems, of course. What I was hoping for was for someone to say that from what they can see in the pictures, the Focals will create early reflections..or...not to worry, it looks like the Tannoys will overshoot the Focals. But I can see from the photo's that it is difficult to see and judge the distance accurately. I think I will turn the Tannoys upright again and do some more testing. If anyone has any more to add that would be great. Thanks again for the replies. |
