DIY sliding glass doors

Has anyone here built sliding glass doors from scratch, completely DIY ?

We would like to replace our "normal" door to the drum booth with a sliding glass door. A pre-made custom ordered one is off the charts cost wise.

We have been offered a bunch of big iso-glass windows for free. (just the glass, no framework). I´m toying the idea of building the framework and turn these into sliding glass doors... Any words of wisdom besides don´t do it ?

If you´ve done it please share some inspiration !

I would not recommend sliding doors. It´s almost impossible to make a decent isolation as you will not have any places to put any rubber strips. If you already got the iso-glass windows for free and if the size allow, you can build a glass door with hinches from that windows instead.

The reason we would do this is to save space. The space the normal door requires to be opened fully eats up too much control room space (yes, that´s how small the studio is...) so we would get about 2 square metres more usable space and the whole place would feel bigger and lighter with more glass in between the rooms.

Yes, isolation is the main concern. I have some ideas but will need to think through it some more. I would do two doors with an airgap in between.

If isolation is your main concern, go with what produces better isolation, ie. better door (and windows in the door) seals and have normal doors. If saving space and having a room that feels bigger and lighter are your main concerns then go with more glass, more light and have sliding glass doors.

This is difficult to explain.........=/. I'll make a drawing for you tomorow from a door whitch would be suitable for what you need. Very cheap and easy to build.
