Difference between flooring

Hello everyone,

I have enjoyed reading through the forum on the subject of floor acoustics in respect to recording. I have a question - is there a difference in recording, say vocals, in a space treated with hard wood floor, verse a space with plywood pieces covering carpet? I am just curious if there is a difference (however slight). Thank you!

Depends on the style vocals... which determine optimal room size, treatment, etc... of course, you could go anechoic and just add whatever reverb you'd like... which is the best if you plan on recording many different styles in the same space.

I am sure there would be a difference in the testing (maybe) but nothing you would ever hear. That is covering all the carpet with plywood.

Very small difference probably: RealTraps - Does Wood Really Sound Warm?

And carpet is generally a bad idea: Tiny room floor Flooring question

A carpet wont yield an 'anechoic floor response', it will only deaden the HF - which should be avoided... (unless called for)

Wasn't suggesting a carpet would make a room anechoic... I was talking about the whole room being anechoic for vocals utilizing the proper methods... I was expanding on the OP. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to clear that up, I was unaware that I had caused confusion.

Haha... Sorry! Our OP was asking about the floor, so i assumed that was what we were discussing. Anyway, as you were...

I never measured this, but I believe that plywood boards over carpet, will introduce different type of absorption in your room, than only hard floor over hard base, at frequencies that belong to vocal frequency band. You will have high frequency reflections for sure... btw.
You can look some similar measurements here, that Jens Eklund did. There are laminate floor over only thin polyethylene leveling foam... this forms a membrane absorber that can't be easily neglected.

Cheers
