Thread Starter | Tile Ceiling
So I'm renting an office space with a buddy of mine and we've both taking a an audio engineering course and are wanting to turn this little space into a studio. Most of our clientele for now will consist of young high school bands and what not who just want a demo to show people. The walls are thin and the ceiling are drop tiles. We're going to be putting up acoustic tiles, and we figure for the drop tile we would put a bunch of insulation on top of the tiles. Do you think this would make a difference? |

It will make a difference but will it help achieve whatever difference you want or need? Do you need to include any isolation so that neighbouring offices don't hear you or vice versa, or are you only needing acoustic treatment? Are the other offices above, below, on either side? Do you have any windows? What is the door like (mass, seals)? What dimensions are the office? What materials and thicknesses are the boundaries? Some of those tiles are porous to sound some not. They may be doing a good job already. If so the insulation above will help, if not it will do little. Try to find out what they are? Do they look like plaster with bubbles in it or like fibreglass boards? Can you blow through them. Tiled ceilings are often associated with decent sound in my experience. DD |

If you want, post a picture of the tiles and we will be able to let you know what they are. Plus 1 to Dan Dans advise.
