No, it's not a song from Jesus Christ Superstar. It's my latest hurdle to overcome here at the home studio. Here is the offender: This is via a new cable run of 8 ch snake that I have going from my studio in the garage, through the walls, under the floor, etc., to the lower levels of my house. The wire is good quality Gepco. The run is about 250' and terminates with an 8 ch stage box that I pull all over my house, depending on what room I want to use. It's a little guerrilla, but its what works for now. Or, at least it would work, if I didn't have this buzz! I've tried many different outlets, and I'm getting this all over the place. There are some dimmers in the house, but nothing is on, and still getting it. My hope is that someone on here will recognize the sound of this and be able to help me solve it. Considering replacing all the dimmers with hard switches. Beyond that, I'm sorta lost. And, bummed.

Could be the outlet. Could be the snake. Could be the gear. Could be how the snake is routed, if it's coming in contact with anything. Dimmers bad. Process of elimination. You may have to remove the 250' snake to make sure snake is cool (and no interference). Check with a regular mic and chord to gear first. Could even turn off single breakers at panel to locate if a circuit is a problem. If all else fails, you may want to look into balanced, clean power. |

Thanks. Everything in the studio is clean and noiseless. It's the house where I'm having trouble. I've tried different outlets all over the house today, and I get the noise everywhere. I really hope it's not the snake. I don't know how it could be, unless somewhere in the install it got too close to some electrical. We were careful to avoid that, but you never know. It was pulled through innerduct conduit to protect it, FWIW. I guess the first thing to do is get rid of the dimmers and see if that does the trick. I will go through the panel when I have someone to help me monitor what is happening. Appreciate the thoughts. |

What are you plugging in all around the house. A guitar amp??? Is a straight mic into the snake going back to your clean studio clean? Maybe take a long extension chord (120v) to your clean room. (Just another process). Turn dimmers off via the circuit breakers at the panel before ripping them all out. Then start turning circuits on one by one. Gotta get it clean, then start adding to find the culprit (culprits). |

Sorry, I wasn't clear on what I was plugging in. It's a tube powered mic. And, I've tried several, so I know it's not just the mic. I've tried some dynamics and I get the same noise, just less power, as expected. Thanks again. I will get on the panel when I can. |
