Thread Starter | Square Room with a Hallway
Hey everyone. I know this general topic has been discussed to death but I have a few questions I couldn't find on the board, or elsewhere. I want to move my workstation/desk to a more ideal spot for mixing (indie rock/power pop type of stuff), but I'm not sure which position (A, B, or C, facing the wall in each instance, using the 38% rule as a starting point, centered in the middle of the wall) would be best. After choosing a spot I'd rearrange the rest of the room accordingly. I'm mostly concerned about the effect the hallway would have. I found some threads discussing hallways but never one that was in the center of one of the walls. I have to close the door to the kitchen when I record because of my extremely loud fridge, but I could leave it open when I mix. I'm also currently reading up on treatments and going through the stickies in this forum, and I have the materials to build four bass traps (following the DIY "Bass Traps Made Easy" .pdf that's on the net). I plan on doing some room measurements and more treatment to make this space as usable as possible, even though I'm well aware that it's less than ideal. Anyway, are there any thoughts on which position might be the best? I assume that if the hallway was treated properly it wouldn't really make a difference which spot I chose, but from what I read about similar rooms it seemed like the hallway could just add to the length of the room and wouldn't be as much of a problem as I initially thought. I figured my first 4 bass traps should go up in the corners of the main room. The indented wall on the left side of the main room is about 4" in. And this is my only room it's just a studio apartment with a separate kitchen. What do you guys think, am I on the right track? Any help wold be greatly appreciated. ![]() Last edited by illold3chordme; 25th June 2011 at 02:00 AM.. Reason: More info |
