Hi all.. I drew up a sketch of what my recording space looks like and what I have done to make it recording appropriate. I'm looking for feedback/advice to make the best of what I've got here. The gear I'm using: Logic pro 9 Apogee duet SM57 with pop screen Hanging blankets are fleece blankets.. Maybe an eighth of an inch thick. Room is relatively small. I put pillows over the windows to further block sound. See attached drawing for layout. Thanks! ![]() Kyle |

Hi Kyle. It's great that you want to make the best of what you have. The main problem you will have at the moment is unwanted sounds reflecting off the walls being picked up by the mic. There is a comprehensive index to a lot of reading that will teach you how to do deal with that. Acoustics/Treatment Reference Guide - LOOK HERE! It may help to have a simple and almost jargin free explanation as to what you need to do and why you would want to. I wrote this for someone else a few days ago. I hope it helps. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/6773941-post10.html |

That's helpful, thanks. My next question is, because I am on a budget, what's the least expensive way to accomplish this? And because it is my bedroom and not a full time recording space, what is the least invasive way to do this? Kyle |

As well as the 2 links in my previous reply, there are two sub-forums, Bass traps, acoustic panels, foam etc - Gearslutz.com and Photo diaries of recording studio construction projects - Gearslutz.com where you can see what and how many others have done similar. Have a read and look and come back with further questions. The traps are not themselves fixed to the walls and ceiling. You can drill and put in hooks, like you would to hang a picture or affix a shelf bracket, and hang the traps from the hooks. It is also possible to make the wall traps free standing. There will be examples in the links above and also on the GIK web site (here, for example) because GIK sells traps on stands. Last edited by Starlight; 25th June 2011 at 12:45 AM..
