Thread Starter | What's Better - Small Room With Ideal Room Ratio or Large Room With Less Ideal Ratio?
I have two rooms in my new house, and I need to decide where I will be putting my mixing room. I will also be doing some recording in the room. The ceilings in both rooms are 8' high. Room 1 is approximately 11' X 14'. Its dimensions are extremely close to a well-known "ideal room ratio." Room 2 is approximately 15' X 20,' which is quite a bit larger. However, its "room ratio" falls into the "not bad, but not good" category. My understanding is that in selecting mixing and recording rooms, generally bigger (up to a point) is better, but it is also important to try to get as close as possible to an ideal room ratio. (FYI: I already own plenty of acoustical treatment, and would be willing to buy more, if needed.) So, which room do I choose? Any input would be greatly appreciated. |
