Thread Starter | Gear rack in corner - affects bass trapping how?
Small room (14'x12'x7'). 5.5' gear rack in one corner almost against wall (out a couple inches on each side). obviously open space behind and 1.5' clearance on top. How does that affect the room mode for bass trapping? this is uber low budget and this rack kind of has to go in the corner. it's angled inward 45 degrees for now although that can be changed to put it more into the corner completely if that's helpful. can't trap in front. trapping behind will mean moving this rack out half a foot or more on both sides effectively removing a lot of room real estate. what's best? no bass traps behind it at all? don't worry about this corner? trap above it in the remaining corner area? there are lots of other complications in this room but this is a question I really have no clue about yet. At this point there is no treatment but I have 3 or 4 4" 2x4' fiberglass bass traps I can install and a lot of HF treatment I can put up. This is for a single room home studio - tracking and mixing. Very compromised conditions, I know... open to practical ideas, cant' spend cash on this right now so it's more about what I can do with what is there. thanks guys. This might be temporary but could become where I do session work in the near future :-( |

I guess I could simplify my post like this: Would that rack effectively act as a solid wall starting at it's front or would bass still build up behind the rack, thereby making the existence of the rack more of a problem? I'm probably going to bass trap at 45degrees across the ceiling/wall joins in this room due to complexities like this in the corners. sound intelligent enough? I'm not expecting miracles, and I understand testing and so on... just thinking about room placement scenarios at this point. rack is currently angled. is it less detrimental to room like that or better pushed right into corner at 90 degrees? acoustically speaking I mean... |

The main problem with having stuff in a corner is that it prevents you from putting bass traps there. If you can move the rack away from the corner, and far enough away that it doesn't block sound waves from reaching the traps you'll put there, that's the best solution. --Ethan ________________ The Acoustic Treatment Experts |
