Speaker Problem AGAIN!!!!

Hi everyone.

I bought a pair of Genelec 8030A,

today i played a sine sweep (Wanted to measure the room) and something wierd happened

Basically, when playing low frequencies, there is a sound coming from inside the speakers, the sound of air blowing on a piece of paper or plastic...

The sound is not coming from the driver but from something "inside" the speaker!!!

what the hell its going on????

Don't these have a bass port at the back?

Noise is too much, its not minimal, its like something vibrating inside the reflex port

it happens between 53 and 67hz

something fell in, or got into the port?

whatever the case, you cant open it up to see, unless you want to void your warranty.

what i would do is download a tone generator, set it to continuous, then go through the frequencies and see exactly what frequency the noise is...

maybe take a video of it doing it, and send it to genelec? or post it here?

just some ideas.

What you are hearing is the port noise that occurs around the tuning frequency of the speaker, which is around approx 58 Hz for an 8030. This in normal but the 8000 series might be a tad worse than others due to aggressive tuning. This is however not normally a problem at normal listening levels.

Even at listening levels i can hear it, not that bad but annoying!!

what genelec says is that their technology reduces this side-effect!! Wrooong!

If it’s audible at normal listening levels, there might be something wrong. Is it the same magnitude in both speakers?

Hello,

First of all, I'm sorry to hear that there is a problem with your Genelec speakers. Let's sort it out asap!

As other people were already posting, it is typical for any reflex type of a speaker/subwoofer to produce some amounts of port chuffing noise when a sine wave type of a signal is being played at high level. Some products have 'more' noise, some 'less'. I would like to think that Genelec speakers are in the 'less' category due to smart port design and other features. So if the noise is audible with normal music material at typical listening levels, something is not right.

Could you record (video or audio) the noise and post it here? Also, would be interesting to have the sound clip (if not commonly available) that is used during the test. I could check if the material has unusual amounts of LF content.

Thank you!

Best regards,
