Ready to start planning my room

Hey guys!
I´m decided to add some sort of bass trapping to my little room (4x3x2.4mts).
I read a lot of threads here and at Sayer´s and I *think* I understand the basics...

I was thinking about making 5 or 6 panels, do some measurement and then do some more planning... I can buy some 50kg/m3 Isover rigid fiberglass but I´m not sure if I should make them 4" or 5.5".

I´m a little lost about the whole about using fluffy stuff instead of rigid... Can anyone shed some light about it (referred to my particular case)?

Thanks!

Type: "flow resistivity" in the search field.

4 or 5.5" is fine. I recommend using an air gap behind the panel of the same thickness as the rock wool.
Cheers,
John

Five to six panels is a nice start but placement and how you are set up is going to give you the best bang for buck. You are best to start by straddling corners which will give you maximum absorption with broad band panels. If you would like post a layout and or pictures of the room and we can take a look at how you are set up now.
See the following as a general guide line for set up.

And above all; take measurements. If not, you don’t have a clue what you’re trying to fix.

Thanks guys!
Here´s a sketch of my room (height is 2.4mts)

I´ve already downloaded the RoomEq Wizard but I was waiting to have some panles before doing the whole testing thing.
Do you think 5.5" panels with a 4" air gap behind will work as bass traps (instead of broadband absorbers?)

Test first.

Use test data to fine tune your speaker/listener positioning before you treat.

This should get you 70% the way there (sorry, had to do it)

Seriously though, measuring and positioning before you treat is the way to go.

Julian,
Yes, they will work as bass traps especially when placed in the corners... but they will still be broadband absorbers.

If you can not find suitable vertical corners, use the horizontal ones.. there are 12 corners in a rectangle.
Next, early reflection points. My First Reflection Calculator among others on my publications page can help. Also look at the room set-up articles at the RealTraps and GIK sites.
Cheers,
John

Thanks so much, guys! Panels are on his way: 2x3´ (x5.5"). Any issue about the size?

I´m shopping for fabric, and I started to wonder about the back of the traps... Should I leave them open? Is there any risk of having fiberglass particles floating around my place if there´s no fabric to hold them in place?

BTW, this is the cheapest wool I can find... 14 kg/m3...

Is this good enough for superchunks (60x60x80cm)?

Julian,

Sorry, I've been very busy...

cover the back of the traps with ticking fabric. (like the fabric under your sofa) - this will keep everything neat and clean.

The FIELTRO FL is fine for superchunk - superblob.. whatever - You may need to tie it up to keep it from sagging.

cheers,
John

Thanks John! You´re the man!
btw, What do you think about the size of the panels (in relation to the size of the room)?
