Speakers & Computer noise.

I have some new Samson Resolv A8 monitors for my home recording studio that are "shielded for a/v use". There is no ground hum but a low level noise that reminds me of how SMPTE time code used to sound when files are loading on my iMac and they also pick up mouse movement and screen drags etc., making a static kind of noise with the movement. I've moved them a few feet away, no difference. Volume down on computer, no difference. Move around audio cables plugged into the speakers, no difference. Wireless or non wireless mouse, no difference. Lift ground, no difference. I've turned the volume control on the speakers themselves way down, which helps a lot but when I put the level where I truly want it, it is very noticeable. Is this normal? It happens whether the speakers get their output through my Apogee One or directly from the computer. When I shut down the computer, they are supper quiet. Any ideas on how to fix this? It is very background but enough to really bother me. Thank you for any suggestions!

Probably a motherboard issue. The noise you hear when moving the mouse is processor activity/clocking. Try a test using another computer.

Cheers,
John

That makes me think--I didn't realize it but there is absolutely no issue with head phones, even with the volume turned up all the way on them. So I moved one speaker about 12 feet away, plugged it into another plug and ran the same (Hosa) cable to it and it STILL has the same problem, which makes me think it may be the cable?? Is that possible? I'll try to get a hold of another cable to compare. Thanks.

VERY interesting. Yes, continue to eliminate components.

Ground loop

This is probably a ground loop, I had the exact same problem

You can confirm if it's a ground loop by connecting a usb cable to the computer and hold one of the speaker connectors against the unconnected usb connector, if you hear the computer noise you have a ground loop... the solution is a ground loop isolator (1-1transformator). If you have rca input/output this would work:

Check this video on youtube for a explanation:
