is rock wool nasty for our lungs?

hey guys I'm building some trap here, I already made my decision, rock wool, it's cheap and it does the job but I got one question now, do I really need to wrap it up with some cellophane before to put it into the frame? I heard lots of things about these panels being nasty for our health, what is the true?

Too many people here like to emit rumors. The fact is that the BBC has been sound absorbers with open rockwool and fiberglass FOR DECADES. No impermeable surface wrap is required.

Good luck!

You are fine using mineral wool or fiberglass. I would though recommend wearing glasses, gloves, air mask and so on when building. It is not that the stuff will hurt you, but when working with it can make you itch.

Rod's book includes details of tests carried out on animals. The conclusions arrived at and the recommendations being made are exactly as Glenn states, above.

thank you guys, I got worried, because I see lots of people selling those traps, they all point out that the wool is well wrapped to avoid the fine dust to get spread around the room.
I'm actually building them my self, following a tutorial found on you tube, but then I got stuck when I heard this guy telling to use some thin fabric to cover the whole frame because the trap needs to let the air in and out the wool to be fully efficient god sake!
sorry for the lack of commas...

Like I said just in the building you need to worry about it, I would think. We actually use non-formaldehyde rigid fiberglass and found the air quality much better in the plant. This is something that customers do worry about so as a company we changed ourselves. Proactive to say. But like I said you should not die if you use mineral wool or rigid fiberglass with formaldehyde, I THINK

It depends if you bought Rockwool from the EU or the US. Coincidentally I know a guy who worked as a representative for the company that builds the machines for mineral wool production!
US = old machines. You should wear protection.
EU(Czech republic) = new machines, no harm.

it is only classified as a "mechanical irritant" not a carcinogen.
