John Mansville R-19 Insulation

I have a bunch of John Mansville R-19 Insulation leftover from the framing of the walls in the studio. Could I possibly use this stuff for any bass traps or bass panels?? I know OC703 is the idel material to use, but I was just wondering if I could POSSIBLY use a bunch of JM-R19 and still have the bass traps or panels still be effective? (curious)

i'm no expert but since nobodies responded i'll offer my understanding:

r19 isn't dense enough to act as an effective absorption material. materials like 703 are a dense, rigid fiberglass and therefore much better at absorbing the low frequencies that are typically problematic. i guess its better than nothing but i wouldn't expect substantial results.

again, i may be wrong but thats my understanding.

the general theory, i believe, is that if you compress it you get pretty close to 703 results.

Great....those are both assumption that I had already came to...hence leading me starting this thread. Lol! Thanks for at least replying to the post though. But yes...I also figured that if I compressed enough R-19 that it could be effective as a bass trap or acoustic wall panel. Still hoping for some mid level, professional advice (at least)

if your track is thicker than 8 inches it will be more effective than 703 if you use that R19 stuff

People talking bullsh*t i guess.....Ive been lookng for technicall info and i can't find density nor gas flow resistivety so without that information your clue less.

Look on johns-manville website for the absorption figures. I think the lowest they rate is 100ish hertz. Compare the the fiber glass board

It's based on the assumption that the density and air flow resistivity are typical for "fluffy fiberglass" batts.
