Help with "dead" room.

Hi, I'm working in this studio, but we think the studo is so "dead", so I want to fix this problem, the studio is all covered with panels of high density polyurethane. what would be the best way to solve the problem?

Maybe QRD diffusers could solve the problem?

I want to treat the live room first, we record mainly drums, vocal and electric guitars, the live room also have problems with some low resonance and I think it need some bass traps, but first I would solve de "Deadness" problem fisrt.

thank you very much!

you might consider - make some acoustic measurements to determine the overall frequency and RT responses. in general for the live room: floor - make it hard - wood covered or polished cement. walls- consider polycylindrical (polys) spaced around the walls and across your corners. ceiling - something like 600mm x 900mm wood panels scattered (about 300mm-600mm apart) across the ceiling on varying angles. the polys will add some LF absorption and diffusion, the ceiling panels will scatter. the hard floor will typically sound better for acoustic instruments.

+1. I could not add anything more.

thank you very much, in the walls, how much distance should be between each diffuser? would be a good idea to use polys in conjuntion with QRD?
or it should be better to use only polys?

And for the wood panels, what kind of wood will be the better for this?

thank you so much.

gon08,

Space the polys about one radius from each other or you can place them next to each other but it it very important to vary the cord length of the polys when you use several of them side-by-side.

Generally, masonite or 1/8" (3mm) plywood is used. I don't recommend peg board. The wood you use really depends on what you want it to look like.

Cheers,
John
