Audio and Video computer set-up

Audio and Video computer set-up

Good day,

I am in the process of building a computer for audio and video editing. I am using Vegas studio for video and Acid for audio.

I have a M-Audio fast track pro and monitors. Also have a screen, mouse and keyboard.
So all i need is a good (PC) computer.
Could someone direct me in what would be a good Mother board, Video card, Power supply, Processor, Drives and/or any other thing i need to get?
I don't want to pay outrageous amounts of money for the computer... Maybe there is a tower system all ready out there with all that i need...
I would also like to have the capacity to go on-line to get updates and files
I would like this computer (PC) to have 3 drives to manage my projects:
1- C: with win 7 and all programs mention above.
2- D: with all Audio files and songs.
3- E: with all video files and images.

If you need more information that would help in this build please don't hesitate to contact me.
I really appreciate all input and information i can get.

Thank you kindly and Cheers.

If you are price sensitive, I'd stick with a pre-built from someone like HP or Acer. The latest i5 processors are pretty fast and the QPI bus allows most of the middle range of systems to handle things like video and 32-track audio just fine.

The only place you may need more than run-of-the-mill these days is pro-level video editing and projects with massive orchestral samples in a mix.

One thing you must consider when buying a pre-built PC is its ability to receive extra components like HD or SSD, how many. Most often these are delivered with one HD only, and you might want to add more.

DIY for this is fairly easy and much cheaper than buying extensions from the PC maker (specially for laptops), the hardest job being configuring the OS, partitionning all disks in a clever way, and not loosing data. This is well described on the Internet anyway.

It also takes a while to properly optimize the OS, because it is hardly well configured for performance when delivered. Lots of unnecessary processes, the infamous Windows file indexing service to disable, and plenty of other things. Again a web search will give you the information.
