Thread Starter | Small Rectangular Mix Room, facing a corner
Setting up a small mix room in my home, here is the current layout: ![]() Actually, the heavy curtain isn't actually in front of the computer racks yet, and Yes my desk is 8' x 12', and this room is also my home office. The desk really does dictate where I can sit, I can't play the room the long way unless I want to sit with a table leg between my knees. There is currently a dip at the mix position that starts around 150Hz, and it's maybe a little broader than an octave wide. Rolling my chair back down the aisle gives me little pockets of judgment, but there is no real sweet spot that tells all. I have to do something about the modes, but I don't have alot of physical space for bass traps. I figure that a very heavy drape that will cover the computer racks (open frame) at the back of the room may help somewhat as there is 4' behind it. I do have a slight ducting edge that drops in at 6", so I could also trap the rest of the ceiling to make it all flush, giving me 6" of Damping in that direction (dropping the ceiling to 6'6"). I am also willing to build a trap wall coving the entire exposed wall at my back, allthough I don't think I will have much clearance between the traps and the wall. I could trap everything under the desk, allthough I also do have a subwoofer under there. The corner I am facing, behind the computer monitor is also dead space, so I can treat that area as well. All the wall space above the desk is also game for treatment. The floor is currently wood laminant, which I can change out pretty easily. I'm not really all that thrilled at the aspect of being locked in a padded room, or ending up with a room that is too dead. Anyone have any thoughts as to which areas should get treatment first, and which are less likely to make an improvement? |

Only a guess but I would think a lot of the problem is coming from the desk. Beyond that you are on the right track for the other things you pointed out.

Thanks for your input, odly enough I wasn't even considering the desk - talk about not seeing the forest for the trees.... The flat surface is large and it pretty much makes a second floor in the room. My TM-D8000 is currently sitting on one end of it, and I have my monitor mixer on the other end, which breaks up the flat level surfaces somewhat, but other than keeping it messy and lumpy, I'm not sure if there is much I can do about that. |
