GIK 244 for the whole room? $2430 to spend

Hi,

I am looking to totally treat my control room and due to budget constrains I looking at the GIK product range. I have a budget of $2430. (1430 uk pounds)

Room dimensions: 380 (Length) X 270 (width) X 280 (height) cm

I want to either:

purchase 11 packs of 244's so I can treat all corners floor to ceiling, all reflection points with two traps at each reflection point, 3 traps on the back wall, three traps on the front wall ( it's a small room) and have a couple of bass traps spare to deal with any remaing frequency problems

Or

purchase 4 packs of tri traps for floor to ceiling, and 5 packs of 244's.

The 244's will go to: 3 on the back wall, two at the front wall, 2 at the left side wall reflection point, two at the right refl. point and one on the ceiling.

Without having to take any room measurements, which do you think would be a better option? Thanks

if you're spending that kind of money, why not purchase an omni mic for $50, use Room EQ Wizard (free) --- and map out the fundamental issues within your room.

you can blindly apply the treatment, sure ... but if you're going the distance you need to take measurements so you can confirm the 'treatment' you applied has indeed 'treated the problem' that the treatment was procured for.

the benefit of purchasing from a vendor vs DIY is the support/services aspect...id imagine you could contact them and they would help to map out solutions...but measurements really should be required before doing anything.

The better (actually best) option would be to contact GIK directly - they will guide you step by step through the process to get the most "bang for your buck".

I also agree with Rod. It is always best to contact us so we can give you the best solution for your room. You can fill out the following form online (or just email me) which will give us most of the info we need.

Thanks for the replies. Glenn, I understand it might be better to contact you through the website. But this is a normal rectangular room with one door, and the abovementioned dimensions. I am positive you've dealt with lots of similar rooms and know what works in what room. I have all the amount at present, (but it might be gone in a couple of days as it always happens) so I need to purchase right now and don't have the time to take measurements. I don't have any treatment at the moment. I will be contacting you when I 'll have everything here if I need some advice.

Which of the two solutions I mentioned above would you recommend? As I understand from the suggestion to have a look at the Room setup, it would be the option with the tri traps, is that correct?

My main thought is that the only difference between the tri traps and the 244 is at 50 hz, so possible going with only 244's and filling up more space in the room might be a better option? Thanks

Most people would find out the wisest way to use their 2500$ budget.

It makes no sense not to measure anything and blindly purchase product... Why not provide GIK with the information they need to give you pro advice?

Sorry I have not been able to get back to you as I was in the UK (at our new plant) and now in Amsterdam enjoying a little R&R.
I am going to send you a PM to try to answer some of your questions. Note that I will be traveling back to the US on Sunday so my replies might be a bit slow today and tomorrow.
