how do you determine a room ratio when you have vaulted ceilings?

I did some searching for other threads but I couldn't find any.

The room is 20'10" x 13'6" with 8' foot ceilings that peak at 12 feet in the center.

I think am I going to need to make the room smaller (lengthwise) to suit the owner who wants to have some separate space for storage of tools / lawnmower / etc. Also The wall would be to isolate myself from noise coming through the garage door.

I'm just trying to figure out what length I should drop the 20'10" wall to.

You can average the height = 10 feet to do a mode calculation. But I'd leave the room as it is rather than shorten the longest wall. If you must shorten it, do as little as possible. See this:

thanks Ethan!

Unfortunately I only have macs in the house, and I cant quite figure out how to do with math on my own (I'm terrible at math).

but thanks for the answer regarding the average.

p.s.

If anyone has any tips on how I can explain to my mom, in plain english, why making a room 13x8x10(avg ceiling height) would leave me with a pretty unworkable tracking space let me know.

from everything I've read I (gervias' book, cover to cover) understand that its an awful idea, but I basically have two options. No soundproofing, or a soundproofing with a small room.

(my neighborhood is hella noisy, dogs, kids, cars, lawnmowers and airplanes (we live right by the airport))

There's a note on that page about Macs, saying to use the "preferred" ratios shown.
