Acoustic treatment on a budget ($500)

Is it possible to get decent room treatment with about $500-600, assuming I'm not building my own stuff. Also, how many components (bass traps, diffusers, etc) would be minimum to get an atleast decent sounding room?

And if so, are there any good commercial companies where I can buy this stuff ready to go. I was looking at the GIK Acoustics room package which is like $550.

I was thinking of just getting something like this:

Roominators Project 2 - Performance Series Acoustic Sound Control Kits from Auralex Acoustics.

Then again I heard auralex isn't that great. I pretty much fail at acoustics. Anyone care to help with this?

Depending on the size of our room, you can get a good start with your budget. I would recommend sending us your room info and let us come up with the best solution that meets your budget. Keep in mind that even if you can't get the room 100% there, on your budget, you are "starting the process" which never a bad thing.
see the following page to give us the info we need.
