Thread Starter | New Sub placement. Need some advise
Hi GS, After many days of figuring out where to put my sub , i finally decided to put it up (in the middle) of LR speakersI find that this has given me a much better image! I played some commercial cd's. It sounds a lot fuller and very tight. Also the time alignment sound tight. Cant really tell if there's a delay. I checked by playing a sub kick and boosting the snap. Mind you this is done purely by ears. Havent really use any software with calibration mic. I will do that soon after i figure out how to use it! Advised by Ethan Winer. I will also post the graph so i can get some help from the pro's here. Ive included some pics, so do let me know what you think? Also, i used a wooden box to place the sub on top. Should i get a proper speaker stand? Will it make any difference ? Im open to any advise. Thank you for your time |

| Lives for gear | All you need is....
People who spend time recording and mixing develop hearing skills. If it sounds good to you and if mixes sound the same in general in the outside world....Bingo. A wooden box is likely to be causing a little trouble, unless it is very dense wood or MDF. At least stuff if full of fibre or rockwool or Ecowool, or kitty litter! Or replace it with concrete blocks, painted or covered in fabric. The position is interesting. You are in the middle of the width, thus not driving the first W mode well. Probably a good thing. Ditto middle height. Lengthwise you seem to be away from the front wall a bit. Maybe even in or close to the second length null. Interesting. DD |

| By putting it in the middle of the room, you don't excite the axial mode from side to side. By raising it, you couple less to the vertical axial node. Putting it half-way back in the room (probably behind your head) will lessen coupling to that axial mode as well.... If your cross-over frequncy is low enough, the boundary effects in a room that small will be minimal. I assume that the walls are gypsum board over studs - which helps too. -tINY |
