Why can you sit closer to Skylines

Why can you sit closer to Skylines

As compared to QRDs? I understand that the Skyline is going to by nature send less energy to the listening position bc half the energy with be vertically distributed.

But how does this effect temporal diffusion? Either way, wouldn't you have to sit at a distance so the diffuse field reaches you correctly due to timing?
