Need Help with Temporary Room Design

I have a 10X12 bedroom with thick carpet on the floor, sheetrock on all wall surfaces and ceiling. Ceilings are 8 ft tall.
I want to use this room for mixing.
My dilemma is, however I modify the room, it has to be able to be restored to a regular bedroom (this is not my house) - it's my mother-in-laws.!

I can't put a bunch a holes in the walls to hang stuff. I don't have another place to mix and this is ideal. I know I am in a tough spot but...

I was thinking about that portable booth that auralex makes..I believe it's on tripod stands. What about hanging curtain rods and hang thick curtains or those audimute blankets?

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Shultz,

Check out the articles on the Realtraps and GIK sites. My publications may help as well.

You can hang panel treatments on hooks like pictures. Some minor hole repair and painting when you leave.

Cheers,
John

Thanks JH! I appreciate the help. Doesn't someone make a curtain that helps? I bought the "Room foam" kit from Auralex...but there is no way I can glue stuff that to wall. Any other ideas on how to hang foam (if used) ?

Hanging curtains will put holes in the walls...

You can make stand-alone corner bass traps that you just stand in the corner, and stack two high if they're 3-4 ft high.

Then make some broadband absorbers and mount them on stands.

But first you have figure out what exactly you want to accomplish. You do that by measuring the acoustical properties of your room to see where the problems are, then go about fixing them. Download Room EQ Wizard and get to know it.

Shultz, Spray glue an old CD to the back of the foam. This will give you a place to hang it on a small nail or picture hook. - Be sure to center the CD at the top of the Auralex panel so that it hangs straight.

Cheers,
John
