Thread Starter | Pictures of my control room, have some questions please thanks
This is my control room, It is 21 feet long and 11 feet wide from window to wall. as you can see i had to frame over the a/c duct work . do you guys see any problems im gonna have, the console will sit in the 38 percent of room in the middle with window on left. im concerned that the ac duct work is gonna cause me problems with comb filteing, all though im am putting insulation under neath on both sides. anything i need to do at this point before i continue. thanks

The biggest problem I see is you are going to be firing the speakers down the short wall, which is going to give you a pretty lousy response. Also 11x21 is getting kind of close to a square (11 x 2 is pretty close to 22 feet)

My other room which was intended for my live room is only 14x14 , that why with what ive got to choose from, i decided to go with the long wall in the control room which is 21 feet. because its a longer throw, but only 11 feet wide. for control room so the speakers would have further to go..... here are some pics of live room

The 14x14 room is going to be a problem for either use, especially if the height is around 7 ft too. You really want to change one of those 14 foot dimensions. Lose a foot if you have to. It is not impossible to deal with, but you will end up having to dedicate a lot more of the volume to bass trapping. Which purpose each room has, will depend on how you wish to use them. Will you be recording a full band, or individual instruments? How will you use your control room? Are you a solo operation or will you have 13 producers at a desk? |

Hi Battlefield. I have built my own studio under top quality guidance. I think you need to halt the work and get some qualified advice to avoid wasted money and a studio that under performs. I'm not gonna say who's good or bad acoustics-wise but I will say that I used Recording Architecture (based in the UK and India) and they were and are top notch and are presently building a lot of top studios in Bollywood. Qualified advice is worth it's weight. Good luck Sean Kenny Ten21 Recording Studios Quote:

the live room is closer to 14 x 16 actually, my biggest concern is in the control room where the ac duct hang down, is that going to cause some sound problems. thinking of covering them with insulation and burlap.. I have enough panels for the live room to make it sound good, and its not symetric.

The duct itself should not be a huge problem. Make sure the isolation of the wall goes around the duct, so the duct is enclosed within the room. For isolation you should have a muffler where the duct enters and exits the room. You will have to deal with this already, since the duct is also feeding the room. You can also use the duct space as a great bass trap, either a membrane trap, or use higher density porous absorption, such as 705, and perforate the surface panel, to make it a corner bass trap. Then whatever you do, implement the same arrangement on the other side, as a false soffit, for symmetry, minus the duct itself. Even at 14x16, make sure the ceiling height is not close to half of another dimension. Good luck. Nathan |

the ceiling in both rooms is 8ft at the bottom of rafters. , i have already put 12 inches of insulation between the rafters. Plan on putting 5/8 drywall next with panels on the ceiling. Really dont have alot to spend , so im trying to do what i can to make it work, right now, i have two rooms in my basement not touching each other, didnt cut the concrete though, but i will have floating hard wood floors. i have 1/2 inch of drywall in both rooms so far. Im going to put 5/8 drywall layer next with greenglue, i really need some doors, saw where a guy bought a metal door and then put insulation in it. think that would work?? LOL
