Thread Starter | Developing new Control Room and Recording Room
I decided to dfegadon my old control room... I'm going to develop a new control room. Cool thing is, I have the freedom to choose the room ratio within certain accuracy, as there are a lot of buildings, halls, and rooms around in my city. I search for the follwing room size: 10' - 15' height. 15' - 19' wide. 20' - 28' length. Within these parameters...which room ratios would you recommend? It depends on a lot of other thing of course, and there is no best ratio...but what room measurements would you choose if you had the freedom to do so? Someone told me a ratio once, that has a minimum of bass modes...which one was it again? I searched gearslutz but couldnt find what I wanted. Moreover...what material would be ideal for the room walls? Concrete? How thick? I guess I should NOT build my studio into a warehouse(hall with metal sheet walls? Second wall layer? Absorbers behind that? Made of wood? I don't expect you to teach me all that stuff, please give me just some general idea, of what would be ideal, if I had the freedom to choose. How do room acousticians determine all those strange wall angles? I'm so looking forward to have a great room, so my K & H o300 can finally breath...;-) Thaks in advance! |

| The ratio you pick depends partly on how large you can make the room. This gives a complete explanation: Graphical Mode Calculator IMO it's better to have a larger room than one with an "ideal" ratio. But of course "larger" is hard to define. Is 28 by 19 by 15 feet the largest you can go? --Ethan ________________ The Acoustic Treatment Experts |

Yes, maybe a bit bigger if it helps a lot, but it will cost more then, and I have limits of course. So yes, about 28, 19, 15, and definetely not smaller than 20, 15, 10. BTW...So far my questions only concern the Control room...recording room is an whole other story ... |

^^^ Using my ModeCalc program linked above, this looks pretty good: Length 23 Width 17 Height 14 That said, if it were my room I'd make it as long front to back as possible, then adjust the width and height a bit as needed. --Ethan ________________ The Acoustic Treatment Experts |

Thanks Ethan! 23, 17, 14 sounds great. To have another option...what height and width would fit a room length of 26' best?? And whats the best material for the raw room walls? Bricks? Concrete? Pores Concrete? Following the room in a room principle...how to do that? How to know where to angle the ceiling and the walls? what materials to use? |
