green glue alternatives

I can't get green glue here without mortgaging my house.

what is it basically? something similar to some other generic easily available product, or a totally unique and proprietary idea? these guys have some stuff... they are the biggest guys in the sealant business here. Can any of their products substitute for green glue?

thanks,

No. Sorry.

Green Glue is actually NOT glue. It is a CLD (constrained layer damping) component. If you read up on it here you can find out more.

There are other CLDs available, but they do not have the rep that GG has and I don't think many of them have independent testing done confirming their claims.

What is it you are trying to do? What transmission loss do you require?

Basically, GG is a space and money saver - compared with building in larger air spaces between double walls and adding more mass.

Cheers,
John

thanks john. should have found this thread before posting... everybody in the know seems to concur that there is currently no proven alternative to GG...

i simply don't have access to GG... by the time i ship it down here and pay for customs clearance, it would have cost me an obscene amount...

i guess i'll just stick with what is proven... and not use anything between the drywall layers...

jhbrandt is right.

Apart from green glue there are several other companies. Here is a list:
Decibel drop is $180
Green glue is $170
Quietglue is $140
