Piano resonance in small studio

Hey Guys,

I'm working om my new studio, it's 5 meters long and 3 meters wide.
I have a cool upright piano which I really want to use and put in the studio but I'm wondering; is this gonna cause acoustic problems?
Piano's resonate of course but do any of you all know if this is really an issue?

And if it's an issue; how could it be solved? The mixing position is over the widt of the room and the piano would be over the length in the back..

Thanks!

So the piano is IN the control room?
You can always put an absorption panel across the soundboard in the back when you're not using it. As long as the dampers are in good condition, you should be fine.

Cheers,
John

thanks for the reply.
Yes, the piano is on the control room. It's like a production room with some midi keyboards, guitars, synths, rhodes and a piano in it.

But with the soundboard in the back do you mean a panel actually inside of the piano?
If I have to get it out every time it's gonna be quite a hassle I think..

No. No big problem.. just against the back - next to the wall.

You may have a problem with the front panels of the piano vibrating,
depending on how your piano is made and how loud your music is. On
my smallish studio piano the large removable panel below the keyboard
is pretty loosely attached.

The piano may be a source of unwanted reflections.

I have an L shaped room where the control room is in the long part. The off axis sound in the side part was always boomy until I rolled in a 7'6" grand piano. All of a sudden the bass response evened out dramatically. I have a feeling that the sound board is functioning as a bass trap. Who knows, maybe you'll have similar luck in your studio. Try it.

That would be really great!

thanks for the replies guys, I think Im just gonna try and see..However, it is a bitch to transport an upright piano! We tried to lift it with 4 people and didnt get it up..Too bad I'll have to spend money on transportation instead of some savings for new gear!
